Scheduled to be unveiled at the Networld + Interop trade show in Las Vegas in early April, DaVinci SMTP eMail will encapsulate several Internet messaging protocols (Simple Mail Transport Protocol, Post Office Protocol 4, and Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) but will run on networks based on NetWare's IPX networking protocol, said Steven Guthrie, an On Technology spokesperson. Until now, NetWare LANs could use only applications based on the Internet's IP networking protocol if administrators loaded TCP/IP stacks on every user's desktop or installed IP-to-IPX gateways on the LAN servers.
To make sure that NetWare users don't have to recreate their current address books, Guthrie said DaVinci SMTP eMail will be able to capture those address books off of either NetWare Directory Services, a global directory of server files, or the NetWare bindery. The company has not yet set pricing for the new DaVinci clients.
