OmniSky lures Brits with free Visors

Wireless service provider OmniSky is trying to entice people into a test run in England by throwing in a free Handspring Visor and VisorPhone add-on, as well as unlimited online time for three months. The deal, launched through a joint venture between OmniSky and Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., aims to establish an early foothold in the European market for wireless data.

Those who sign up for the trial will get the service--with the three months of unlimited airtime--and a Handspring PDA with the VisorPhone for $435 (299 pounds). The program costs $652 with the color Visor Prism. There are some drawbacks, however. The test service will not include voice service. The VisorPhone will be used for Web and e-mail access.
