OMG joins Eclipse open-source group

Standards body the Object Management Group said Tuesday that it has joined the Eclipse open-source development tool organization and that OMG chairman and CEO Richard Soley was elected an associate member on Eclipse's Board of Stewards. OMG champions standards around object-oriented programming and middleware, including CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) and the Model Driven Architecture. Eclipse is a consortium, founded by IBM, dedicated to creating an open-source software framework to integrate different types of development tools in a single program. Other Eclipse members include Borland, Oracle, Fujitsu and TogetherSoft.

"I am delighted to represent OMG on the Eclipse board in order to continue to be part of the open-source movement that OMG so strongly believes in," Soley said in a statement.
