Novell draws IntranetWare roadmap

  • Post a comment
ATLANTA--Novell (NOVL) announced a roadmap for its new IntranetWare at the Networld+Interop conference this week that will add firewall and remote access capabilities to the platform by next spring.

Novell officials also announced that a version of IntranetWare for small businesses, code-named Kayak, will be released in November. (See also today's related story in Business about Novell's new management structure.)

"We're serious about meeting these dates and, with focus, we will," said William Donahoo, Novell's senior director of marketing.

IntranetWare II will include Virtual Private Networking (VPN) capabilities that will let users build a firewall over any backbone. Remote access capabilities based on location dependencies will also be added, according to Donahoo.

IntranetWare III, due by next summer, will include the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), replication and mirroring capabilities, a proxy cache Web server, as well as long-awaited native Internet Protocol (IP) support built in.

Donahoo would not elaborate on Kayak, only to say that it will retain many of the same features as IntranetWare, but will be tailored to the requirements of small businesses.
