Norton software to ship with Linksys gear

Symantec has struck a deal with Cisco Systems to ship its Norton Internet Security 2006 with all Linksys wired and wireless routers worldwide, Symantec announced Wednesday.

Norton Internet Security 2006 is a suite of software that includes antivirus, a firewall, antispam and parental controls. Symantec has many deals to bundle its software, including several with PC makers. Linksys buyers will receive a 60-day subscription to product updates and will have the option to purchase a 12-month renewal after that, Symantec said.

I just hope the prices of the routers don't go up because of the bundled software.

don't worry

The software is essentially a demo version - a way to sell subscriptions. All it does is pepper you with annoying pop ups about the need to buy the yearly subscription in 60 days, then 59 days, etc. When you actually but it, it will tell you that you'll have to buy again in 365 days, then 364, etc.

More Crap

I would prefer Linksys Integrated Firewall, Antivirus, and Antispam protection into the Linux based Router software.

Sell me a top notch router and Keep the Symantec Crap I don?t want and will not use.

Peter Norton would be rolling over in his grave if he was dead.

Customer service doubly wanting

I recently purchased products from both Linksys and Symantec. In each case, their customer service was hard to access and even harder to get sense out of. This packaging of products puts consumers in double jeopardy.
