Nokia, AT&T Wireless on the EDGE

Nokia and AT&T Wireless announced Thursday that they have completed the first phone call using a wireless network technology called EDGE. The call was made from an EDGE handset to a laptop that was connected to the Internet.

The announcement comes a day after American carrier Cingular Wireless said it would be upgrading its entire wireless network with EDGE technology. EDGE is software and hardware some carriers will use to create next-generation telephone networks that will offer Internet and voice access at broadband speeds.
