PalmOne spends $30 million to drop 'One'

May 24, 2005

PalmSource, a wholly owned subsidiary of mobile-software maker Access, announced plans on Thursday to change its name. The company, which develops an operating system that runs on Palm devices, will soon go by its owner's name, Access.

The name change transition for PalmSource comes more than a year after it entered an agreement with PalmOne, in which the mobile-device hardware maker would retain the rights to the Palm name. The deal allowed PalmOne to drop the "One" from its name, while PalmSource would have certain Palm trademark rights up to four years.
