combing captchas with blacklists
by joebuff75 June 11, 2007 8:04 AM PDT
I've found that securing web forms with captchas and external
blacklists works very well.

Since implementing http:bl (www.httpbl.org) on one of our sites,
we've seen comment spam drop from 1500 messages per week
to just 16 messages.

It's also possible to integrate other real time blacklists like
SpamHaus, Sorbs, DNSBL etc. into the web forms. These lists can
tell if an IP address has been used by a spammer in recent days
or belongs to a spam operation.

Blocking access to web forms from those IP addresses reduces
the number of spam bots on your site and lets you use more
simple captcha's which can be solved by humans without too
many problems...

Hard for the color-blind too

Being red/green colorblind, all I can think of when I see these captchas are the eye tests for color blindness. A lot of the time I can not make out one or more of the characters in the box because of the color blending.

Of course, the RoadMate 860T's main purpose is to make sure you get to where you need to go. To get started, simply select a destination and your RoadMate 860T http://www.highspeedsat.com/roadmate860.htm GPS navigation system will take it from there. By matching letters to the available destinations, Magellan's QuickSpell address entry feature makes it easy and quick to enter destination addresses. An internal address book also stores up to 200 personal or business destinations for quick reference.
