Anything to keep AMD alive....
by ambparrish January 10, 2008 9:04 AM PST
Makes sense, considering AMD is building a fab in NY State. Gotta ensure the survival of AMD to keep the tax dollars rolling in!

Advanced not Applied

It is Advanced Micro Devices, Not Applied Micro Devices in the sub-title.

Thank you for pointing out the mistake. We'll also send a reminder to Reuters, whose own posting still includes the error.
Waste of public money
by port_mill January 10, 2008 9:12 AM PST
This issue has small impact to NY. It is waste of tax payer's money if each state starts it's own investigation same way. Something else is going on.

Correct...

Mr. Cuomo is just trying to get to Albany using the same methods used by Mr. Spitzer - filing lawsuits that probably don't mean much and then using the media to blow things out of proportion.
Wonderful...

As yet another major employer in upstate NY announces that is it closing its doors, Democrats in Albany waste more public money so they can look good and distract people from the fact that businesses are fleeing NY and its welfarestate taxes.

I (don't) love NY!

"All Your Base (Silica Sand) Are Belong To Us"(INTEL)!
by Commander_Spock January 10, 2008 12:05 PM PST
See if you can find the locations of the "SILICA SAND HILLS"; also, what you need in order to compete according to IBM's T. J. WATSON from the below attached videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9oh3gqOEKU

In a competitive world it is either you lead, follow or drop out of the race altogether. Just do not sit back an depend on mommy and daddy (States' Attorneys General) to come to your aid/assistance. ;-) !

No Competition = $2000 basic Laptop
by fred dunn January 10, 2008 3:27 PM PST
Unless you count VIA which does make a very good low power but moderate clock processor (x86).

Intel can't afford for AMD to go out of business because if they do then the Governement will split them 4 ways.
"Coerced"?????
by baisa January 10, 2008 1:27 PM PST
So are police investigating whether Intel operatives used guns or threatened to otherwise use force against their customers? No?

STOP USING TERMS LIKE "COERCE" AND "FORCE"EQUIVOCALLY

As an Ayn Rand character said in one of her books, "People who can't tell the difference between a dollar and a whip should learn it on their own hides."

And no Virginia, just because someone wants something very much, does not make frustrating their desire "coercion."

It is time for companies to stand up for their rights, and stop letting anti-trust goons intimidate them. Let Intel go on strike and see who needs whom!!!

When you can't keep up sue em!
by jscott418 January 10, 2008 2:12 PM PST
I guess if you cannot keep up technology wise just take em to
court. Why don't AMD spend some of that lawyer money and pt it
towards new product! Or have they given up already?

It's not AMD who filed the lawsuit
by aka_tripleB January 10, 2008 2:38 PM PST
If it was, they wouldn't have needed a subpoena to testify at the trial. It's actually the state of New York that is going after Intel.

AMD should sue Lays...
by slickuser January 10, 2008 2:53 PM PST

New York AG Obviously Has Nothing Better To Do
by larryflowers January 10, 2008 3:05 PM PST
The New York Attorney Generals Office once again sticks it's nose where it doesn't belong. Ivestigating Intel is the Feds job not the New York AG's.
Of course it does get headlines.
Obviously all of the State of New York's problems with crime, gangs, education, etc. are of no particular interest to the New York AG... they wont put him on the world stage. Somebody needs to put this idiot on a leash.

Dell Got Paid 1Billion for being "exclusive"...
by fred dunn January 10, 2008 3:22 PM PST
And that was just one year's "kick-backs". You can call them marketing allowances or whatever you want but Intel did not ditribute this evenly and on top of that threatened manufacturers with "supply shortages" if they produced systems with AMD processors. That not conjecture that is fact.

How in the world
by 3tire January 10, 2008 6:10 PM PST
do you know this as "fact"??? Were you attending multiple sales
negotiations involving Intel and Dell, HP and like....seven or eight
other pc companies? The only type of person who can claim this as
"fact" is.....omigosh.... are YOU the dreaded Intel enforcer everyone
is talking about?
Where do these conspiracy nut jobs keep coming from?

produce the proof, please

If you know that this is "fact", please produce the documents (original Intel and Dell docs) supporting this "fact".

... With "The National Nightmare" - Housing Foreclosures Hitting New York City (The Financial Capital of The World) left, right and center. Should this not have been a much better investment of New York State's pursuit? What next for the "28.6 percent of loans issued to Latino borrowers and 40.7 percent of the loans issued to African Americans - all being sub-prime loans"? Well, guess what a welfare state New York must be heading to be. Here comes those oil-rich Middle Eastern dudes in their US$300 (AIRBUS 380) rides to snap-up the residual values (lay claims of ownership) of the real estate markets of the country!
