New Intel VP to focus on China, India

Intel has named Xu (Ian) Yang as its newest vice president to spearhead its Sales and Marketing group, the company said Monday. Yang, 40, will also serve as co-general manager of Intel in the Asia-Pacific region in tandem with John Antone. Previously, Yang was a manager with Intel China. His region now includes China and India, two of the fastest-growing emerging markets in the world.

Twenty new chip-fabrication facilities will be built in China between now and the end of 2008, according to the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials Institute, a trade group representing equipment manufacturers. Intel Capital has established a $200 million venture fund to invest in the area. High growth is also expected for the computer market in India, which counts only 14 PCs for every 1,000 people. Intel is considering a $400 million chip testing facility, which will likely be located near Bangalore or Chennai, India.
