Network General takes pulse
August 19, 1996
On the heels of strong quarterly results from Ascend Communications and Cascade Communications, Network General (NETG) and Xylan (XYLN) announced booming growth.
Network General, which recently debuted a new network management architecture to expand the market for its popular Sniffer analysis tools, reported a 27 percent increase in revenues for its second fiscal quarter of 1997, compared to those of the same time in the last fiscal year. The company had profits of $9.8 million for this year's period, compared with fiscal 1996 income of $310,000. That figure reflected the completion of an acquisition.
Xylan, a local area network (LAN) switching player that only recently went public, reported record results, with revenues climbing 25 percent for its third quarter ending September 30 compared with the previous period.
Revenue for the company was $35.4 million, up from $28.2 million for the second quarter. Income for the third quarter shot up to $4.6 million from $2.9 million for the previous quarter.
