Network printer leads new Xerox models

Xerox is taking aim at Hewlett-Packard with its latest network printer. Better known for its copiers than its printers, Xerox is touting the advantages of its Phaser 7400 over those of the closest comparable model from market leader HP. The desktop color printer, priced at $2,999, can churn out 36 color or 40 black-and-white pages per minute.

Stamford, Conn.-based Xerox also on Monday unveiled a lineup of three black-and-white devices. At the high end is the WorkCentre Pro 133, a multifunction machine that handles printing, copying, scanning, faxing and e-mail. It can produce 33 pages per minute and is priced at $8,899. The $6,148 WorkCentre 133 offers copying and printing, with optional fax capabilities, and the $5,148 CopyCentre 133 is a standalone digital copier. All of the products are available now.
