Net gambling curbs closer to being law

Federal restrictions on Internet gambling are inching closer to becoming law. By a 16-15 margin, the House of Representatives' Judiciary committee on Wednesday voted for legislation that its subcommittee had approved on May 6.

While nearly all committee members want some form of gambling prohibitions, the close vote was over a successful amendment offered by Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, that would restrict online bets on horse racing and dog racing that individual states have made legal. Opponents, such as Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., argued that Cannon's amendment made the bill unnecessarily controversial and subject to defeat during a vote on the House floor.

There's no way online gambling will be illegal
