NIC Co. releases new machine

The New Internet Computer Co. is shipping the second generation of its New Internet Computer. The new Web-surfing appliance updates the original NIC's features and now offers customers a choice of colors. It sells for $199. Last week, the NIC operating system version 2.0 was announced.

Larry Ellison, NIC Co.'s chairman and Oracle's CEO, said in a statement that he is pleased with NIC Co.'s performance so far. "While other companies seem to be struggling with their Internet appliances, the NIC Company is seeing better-than-expected sales and customer response because of its low cost, ease-of-use, PC-quality browsing functionality, and ISP independence."
