Irony: Verison passed on the iPhone
by NeverFade May 18, 2007 12:27 PM PDT
Bet'cha they wished they hadn't done that now! Someone may have
lost their job(s).

Also, I still don't get that people don't think there is not a keyboard
for email... There is a keyboard for email. It Doesn't seem like
these people know about the product of which they speak.

Stop the FUD people...

1. "iPhone only has one button, how can ou text message with that? Stick to your smart phone..."

HELLO? iPhone Touch screen has TYPING KEYPAD interface people. Watch the video on http://www.apple.com/iphone or U Tube Apple iPhone Keynote address.

2. "Price is too high"
HELLO? smartphones with music, video, calendar, email, internet access, map search, Google & Yahoo search, contacts lists are not cheap either & can easily cost 350 - 500 dollars & do not sync with iTunes or have the many other features that the iPhone has.
It's a phone, it's an iPod, it's an internet device....and it's ONE device.
It also has iTunes, iPhoto & Safari Web browser with Google & Yahoo serch & IM built into the mobile version of MAC OSX.

Get the facts. go to Apple at http://www.apple.com/iphone.
or watch the 2007 keynote adress about the iphone from Steve Jobs.

They can't stop the FUD.

It's all they've got.
FUD alert on all sides
by Vegaman_Dan May 18, 2007 4:41 PM PDT
The article is a bit too simplified for what this device can offer. Granted, nobody knows for sure what it can or cannot do since it isn't actually out yet, but at the price range they are asking, it will need to toast bread and slice it too. :)

No Smartphone today will sync with iTunes. That's right. Apple wouldn't allow such a thing. Instead they sync with everything else. You want music? Sync with your Mac or PC. Want to buy music online? Go buy music online.

Let's give the new phone a chance to succeed or fail on its own. It's not even out yet and people here are calling it great or terrible which only goes to show just how uninformed the public is about this product.

OS X helps iPhone, it will be hard to compete with
by technewsjunkie May 18, 2007 4:24 PM PDT
With "some version" of OS X as the OS for the iPhone, Apple, and
hopefully many other third parties, will have a powerful platform to
develope consumer applications on.

60 Gb Video iPod and Apple's Tech Support
by Vegaman_Dan May 18, 2007 4:46 PM PDT
I am worried that Apple will give the same level of support on the iPhone as they do on their iPods. If that is the case, then we may be in trouble.

I have a 60Gb video iPod that recently no longer would actually turn off. Press and hold PLAY like normal and it would turn off the backlight but that's it. I checked with Apple and they said I would have to send the unit in for repair. The warranty was expired so it would cost me money to have them look at it. The local store looked and told me I would need to replace the iPod.

Excuse me? Replace it? That was a $400 device! Replace it?

I checked online with a non-Apple website, found that this was a common issue and had a simple fix.

If I followed Apple's official advice, they would have had me throw away my old unit and buy a new one at a $400 loss. Instead I looked online and found the information immediately and for free.

That's not exactly the best customer service in the world. Sorry, we can't help you, go buy another unit at full price, vs a web site that had it fixed in seconds.

Your mileage may vary, but Apple's service has never been that popular with consumers. I can certainly understand why based on my own experience with Apple.

More FUD!
by Macsaresafer May 18, 2007 5:00 PM PDT
Apple certainly isn't perfect, but they're service is one of the things
that helps keep customer satisfaction very high.

You may have gotten a bad representative, or maybe they just got
tired of listening to you. Then again, maybe you're just spreading
more FUD.

Disclaimers.... everyone (company) has them, and uses them to
their advantage.

(1) I checked with Apple and they said I would have to send the
unit in for repair. The warranty was expired so it would cost me
money to have them look at it.

* I'm sorry..., I thought this was standard practice for every
company that stated a warrenty program. Out of warrenty..., pay
to have it fixed, or sell it on e bay (parts), or trash it.
Very simple solutions really.

(2) The local store looked and told me I would need to replace
the iPod. Excuse me? Replace it? That was a $400 device!
Replace it?

* Yup..., contrary to belief, Apple is in the Business of making
money, ( I'm very happy with my stock in Apple) so if your iPod
is out of warrenty, and you don't want to pay to have it repaired,
guess what the Apple store rep is going to do...., surprise,
suggest buying a new one.

(3) I checked online with a non-Apple website, found that this
was a common issue and had a simple fix.

*Most people that have owned a Apple product over the years
have learned that Apple is not the final word when trying to
resolve issues with their product. Like you found out yourself,
there are other ways to get through the Apple orchard and solve
the issue yourself.

(4) Instead I looked online and found the information
immediately and for free.

* Captialism at it's best my friend!

(5) Apple's service has never been that popular with consumers.
I can certainly understand why based on my own experience with
Apple.

* Uhhhhh, I think you said it best in your own words....,
"Your mileage may vary"

Fact is..., Apple has been a leader in customer service averaging
a score of 81, compared to the industry rating of 2nd place dell
at 74.
http://www.itworld.com/Comp/1181/050816dellrating/

Further more, 2 years ago, Apple canceled plans to transfer it's
call center (like many in the industry) to India, because of all the
backlash the other companies were getting for having to talk to
someone they could barely understand, and more times than not
knew more than the person they were speaking to in India.

My personal experience with Apple has been above average, with
the replacing 3 of my iPod shuffles, (2 in warrenty, 1 not) for
free. This has been the same experience with the (cheap) bondi
blue iMac keyboards that were released back in 1999. I went
through 5 in a year (gaming, key stick) and they replaced all.

(6) I am worried that Apple will give the same level of support on
the iPhone as they do on their iPods.

* Don't worry, be Happy..., Big Marqee product...., Apple will do
what it takes to make this work, because this is Jobs baby, and
he will nurture it until his last breath..., or at least that's what I
was told. : )
Just because it has a touchscreen...
by GraysonBuzz May 18, 2007 4:52 PM PDT
does not mean that it will be an effective input mechanism. I had one of the early T-Mobile Pocket PC phones. It did not have a keyboard, but had a stylus so it had an input method and it was awful. Odds are, the iPhone input will be better than that, but that does not guarantee it will be as useful as even a limited keyboard on a BlackBerry Pearl.

I think it is a pretty slick device from I have heard about it, but it sounds like you are just a little too intense on Apple products to step back and take an objective look. Regardless, I am not that interested in one, because I do not want an integrated phone and iPod and two getting Cingular service is not an option for me at this time.

Experience can make you 'intense'
by Macsaresafer May 18, 2007 9:03 PM PDT
From my experience with Apple products, and from what I've read
about the iPhone, I wouldn't bet against the iPhone's virtual
keyboard, or any other part of the iPhone. Remember, this isn't just
another product for Apple, it's their first big step into a huge new
market. You can be sure they've thought this through and
important things like typing have been well tested.
The objection to a touchscreen for text is dated...
by technewsjunkie May 19, 2007 6:19 PM PDT
Has he tried it? This one, from Apple who claims it is very
responsive. That one, has he tried it?
I watched the demo and S jobs stated it was very responsive. Apple
does user interfaces very well and they wouldn't make a critical
claim like that if they hadn't addressed it. Best of breed products
from Apple.

iPhone's sales will be disappointing.
by gmcbay May 20, 2007 8:20 PM PDT
All of the rationalization for the iPod's huge price tag sounds just like all the reasons Sony gave for why the PS3 was going to fly off the shelves... and look how that turned out.

$500 is way too much for a phone. As with the PS3, a certain hardcore geek element will shift some units, but this isn't going to sell anywhere near the numbers Apple is forecasting.

Don't forget

People said the same thing about iPods.

You might be surprised what people will pay for a product that is easy to use, has the features they want and is well built.
