Amazon.com has started taking preorders for updated versions of Microsoft's personal finance and photo-editing tools, the software giant said Tuesday.
The software maker said that it will ship Money 2006 and Digital Image Suite 2006 next month but that the titles became available for preorder Tuesday on Amazon.
Money will be available in four editions. Microsoft's suggested prices range from $30 to $90, with mail-in rebates of $5 to $20 also available. Digital Image Suite will be available in two editions, with suggested prices of $50 and $99, with up to $40 in rebates available.
The new version of Money adds the ability to pay multiple online bills from different accounts in one place, as well as an enhanced spending tracker and other features. Chief among the enhancements to the image-editing program are improved organizational capabilities such as the possibility of adding more keywords and labels to photos, as well as new black-and-white special effects.
Money competes with Intuit's Quicken 2005 software, while Digital Imaging Suite faces a variety of competitors, including products from Adobe Systems and others.

I can't understand how c|net continues to make it seem like they are not favoring any one company. I can see reporting on big software such as SQL Server, or Longhorn, but come on, MONEY?!?! Stooges, and this is the straw which breaks the camel's back for me. I've been threatening myself for a long time with a block of this site; this does it for me. I'd rather read Slashdot, and I hate that site!
Hope Microsoft's money (pun intended) feels good in your wallets.
Let's see, after a few weeks Intuit will release its Quicken 2006 software (and maybe once again stop online banking supports for its "loyal" customers :) ), Symantec will release 2006 Norton software lineup, maybe Mcafee and Trend Micro will do that too. Oh, and let's not forget all the encyclopedia CD/DVD yearly update.
... I'd be very cautious about any MS software. Acrylic is a programming disaster, lacking any element of quality. If MS hasn't executed an extremely massive improvement in software devlopment, Money 2006 and Digital Image Suite 2006 will be true lead sleds. And I have found that previous versions of Money have been very unimpressive, even when compared to Quicken.
But then, these are MS programs and obviously, they are the best apps a PC user could have...... right??????
Google creates an animated doodle that features a boy, a girl, Google's search engine, and a jump rope. But might there be darker, more analytical, more troubling interpretations to this tale?
The Silicon Valley online payments startup grew by 1,000 percent last year and is hopeful it can repeat that level of growth this year. To do that, it's had to move away from its early friends-and-family roots and embrace small businesses.
Chamtech's spray-on antenna uses a nano material to provide a low-power boost to antenna range. The wireless-in-a-can product may some day bring an end to unsightly cell towers.
EnerG2 opens a plant to make an engineered carbon that will improve performance of energy storage devices and make storage for start-stop hybrid cars less expensive.
Reporting-by-template?
