Microsoft updates IM tool for Macs

Microsoft has released a new version of its instant-messaging software for Apple Computer's Mac OS X operating system, the software giant said Tuesday. The free software, Messenger for Mac 5.0, will be available in eight languages from Microsoft's Mactopia Web site starting sometime Tuesday, Microsoft said.

The new version will let people simultaneously access corporate and personal instant messages. That is, people will able to send instant messages from behind a corporate firewall, if they are running Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005, in addition to being able to hit a tab to send and receive personal IMs.

Interesting...
... but I already have all the IM I want with Skype. All of MS's great
efforts will probably be ignored. Sad....

MSN Gripes
I am not a big fan of Instant Messaging in general but was forced to use MSN first by my hockey/football pool then by my MBA classmates.

I used it begrudingly I do not think it increases productivity, in fact the opposite. I was never able to send files from my Mac to a PC with the previous version, nor receive them. But my biggest gripe is all my buddies were recently deleted without warning or explination after I did not login to MSN for approximately 3 months. My login ie my Passport account is still operational I just have no buddies. I've tried through the newsgroup and by contacting Microsoft directly to get some answers but none have been forthcoming.

If they expect someone to use software/service surely the users can expect not to have all their buddies deleted when they take a hiatus from instant messaging for a month or two due to stress and a heavy workload in grad school...
