Microsoft settles AT&T patent suit

Microsoft said late Friday that it will pay an unspecified amount to AT&T to settle a patent lawsuit over speech technology. In a joint press release, the companies said they had agreed to settle most of the issues and have a federal appeals court settle one other matter.

The companies did not disclose financial details, but said Microsoft would make one payment to settle the agreed-upon issues and another payment would be dependent on how the appeals court ruled. The two sides had been battling over the issue in federal court. AT&T originally sued Microsoft in June 2001.
