Microsoft sends out database preview

Microsoft on Thursday released an interim "preview" release of its SQL Server 2005 database. The third technical preview adds the company's reporting server software for generating business reports and other revamps to the database management tool.

Technical previews are smaller updates to Microsoft products. The software maker said it intends to release a third beta, or test edition, by the end of March. The beta will be available for download to anyone. The release date for the final version of SQL Server 2005, which had been scheduled for the end of last year, is slated for this summer.
