"Our developers have been hard at work to address customer reported connectivity challenges...between ActiveSync and Windows Mobile 5.0 devices," Microsoft said in a statement. "We are pleased to announce that Microsoft ActiveSync 4.1 is now available."
Microsoft had said it planned to have an ActiveSync update by sometime this month. The issue affected devices that were running Microsoft's Windows Mobile 5 operating system and that tried to connect to a computer over a USB connection, particularly when a firewall or parental control software was in use.
Those using a wireless connection or connecting to a server were not affected.
I recently purchased an Axim X51v and found it to be a disasterous experience. I've been a Palm user for over 4 years and have never had any problems of significance. With the new Windows Mobile 5.0 OS and ActiveSync I had nothing but problems. ActiveSync would not let my PC and Axim connect to each other. We tried all the suggestions on the WM 5.0 site without success. After spending well over 4 hours over several days with Dell Tech Support I finally had to return the Axim.
There were several features I found promising with the Axim, but ActiveSync was not ready for prime-time. I hope they got it right this time.
Have others had similar experience with the new Axim?
I struggled with my Axim X51v for a few days. Dell tried to help but I noticed that I had wasted nearly eight hours combined on the sync and connection issues. I was so mad that I returned the Axim and upgrade my Palm to a T/X. The Palm has been flawless.
