Microsoft patches SQL Server 2000 database

Microsoft Monday released enhancements to its SQL Server 2000 database to fix security holes and improve administration. Called SQL Server Service Pack 3, the software download provides patches for known vulnerabilities and includes guidelines on how to configure the database to be more secure. Other updates address better error reporting, improved multi-server administration, and a monitoring function that will let database administrators or third-party tools diagnose problems.

Database administrators can also improve data replication, and SQL Server can now work with third-party data-mining applications.
