The Penguin told me! This is a dying business model! The Decider
was sure! Microshaft's bloated crapware is nuclear waste!

Well, maybe Mark Twain was right... "The reports of my death are
greatly exaggerated."

Lies, Lies Lies and more Lies!
by Ted Miller January 23, 2008 5:10 AM PST
Have we not had enough of this foolishness?

It is true they did sell a lot of Vista... (To a captive market)

It is true that Vista is more secure... (The users simply can't use it)

What is true is truly a lie, when a person looks at the big picture.

This does not just go with Microsoft, but with much of the buisness out there.

I am sick of it! Arent you?

living in a fantasy land. First there is no such thing called captive market, buyers can choose between buying a Mac or one of those Linux boxes readily available online or from you local walwart stores. Vista might have its share of querks but after using it for almost a year now its a pretty solid OS, after all Windows Server 2008 is based on Vista.
You are a total idiot!

Apple found out
by Vegaman_Dan January 23, 2008 10:07 AM PST
When their own CEO went from calling the AppleTV a breakthrough in media entertainment at the release, then followed by lacklustre/nearly non-existant sales, to call it a 'hobby' product less than a year later.

Yep, you're right. Companies all over make mistakes in what they release and what the public wants.
But Wait ...

I thought MSFT was out of business. They told me that by now Linux and the Mac would have achieved world domination and freed everyone from MSFT. I mean, those billions in Vista must be a mistake. And, no one really owns an XBOX, right? That's a hoax. As for Windows Server, all of the analysts are lying. It's not outshipping Linux nor replacing it in some cases. And Office, no uses it anymore. The world only uses open source, Java-based, Linux-based blah, blah, blah, blah. Active Directory, SQL Server, Exchange Server, SharePoint Server ... it's all a big hoax. No one buys these products. In fact, these products don't even exist. It's all a figment of our imaginations.

Sooner or later, haters have to embrace reality. MSFT is more than just Vista. A lot more. In markets where others were the clear dominators, they continue to move forward and grab market share. Why? Because they are simply better and/or provide a stronger overall value prop. Why else would SQL Server, Windows Server, XBOX, SharePoint, Exchange, etc grow? What? Don't tell me. MSFT is using Jedi mind tricks on folks right?

Good to see this. I own a bit of MSFT stock. Would love to see it hit the high $30s this year. Would make for a nice Christmas this year for me.

JB

So funny, but true. All you read about with an MS story is how it's the devil, and the end of the world as we know it, and it's all lies. Well, here we go.. my friends who have computers, 90% of them have PC's, 10% macs, and ZERO linux (and we're talking tech people here, computer programmers, security experts, and normal users like myself). As for the 360... my fiancee has one, I have one, my best friend, 4 of my other friensd.. who has a PS3? Noone. Wii? 2 people I know, who also have 360's, one saying he'd like to sell the Wii, but his fiancee wont' let him. Those are real people, not make believe. so quit hiding behind your mac, apple fanboys, and the penguim, linux fanboys. I do use open source things (like GAIM/Pidgen and Openoffice), but Linux isn't for me. I don't want to have to fiddle with coding to get something to work, it's annoying and sucks up time.
MAC market share dead at 5%, sell APPLE stock

Fiction vs Reality
by The_Decider January 23, 2008 10:33 AM PST
There is no surging demand for MS products.

It is simply a byproduct of higher demand for computers.

If consumers had true choice(it is getting closer) you wouldn't see MS benefit from its unethical and illegal actions in the past.

Simply Untrue
by James_U January 23, 2008 12:05 PM PST
OK, let's say for a moment that I totally buy into your comment about Microsoft as far as the desktop goes. How do you explain Exchange, SQL, Active Directory, SharePoint, Visual Studio, XBOX and a slew of other products that continue to take market share from established players? I'll offer an answer: THERE PRODUCTS ARE GREAT. If you ever stop for a brief moment and compare their products to the alternative, you religious zealots would realize that people CHOOSE Microsoft. I've found there products easier to install, manage and to develop applications for. It's just easier, cheaper and a better experience. I know you Linux guys hate hearing that, but its simply the truth. And, they keep getting better with each release. I recently downloaded Windows Server 2008 from their web site. I DARE YOU LINUX GUYS to give it an honest try and then tell me what you think. It was the easiest OS installation I've ever done for a server.

Customers want simplicity, performance, security and reliability. Microsoft gives us all the above, and does so at a cost savings plus our IT staff find their products a more pleasant experience. We choose Microsoft, though many of us grew up using UNIX. Hate all you want. They will continue to get better year over year, and continue to grow.

That could almost be true,
