Microsoft delays Virtual PC for Macs

Microsoft on Thursday said the next version of Virtual PC for the Mac has been pushed back until October because the company is waiting to bundle in Service Pack 2 of Windows XP into the editions of Virtual PC that come with Windows. The move also delays until October the professional edition of Office 2004 for the Mac, which includes Virtual PC. Microsoft had already delayed Virtual PC, which was originally slated to ship in the first half of this year.

"We are waiting for the release of Windows XP SP2 in order to offer the most recent, most secure version of Windows XP to our Virtual PC for Mac customers ," Microsoft said in a statement. The company said that should Windows XP SP2 be further delayed, Virtual PC would also be pushed back.

version of Windows XP is Mac OS X, so you see why it's taking so
long."

Why not send us what's ready now?

Why doesn't Microsoft send us the regular office suite upgrade now, and send Virtual PC later when it is finally ready? In Office vX, the two items were sent as mutually exclusive packages housed in one box. Microsoft: do the right thing and get us Office now!

I can see the point of them wanting to wait for SP2 and saving
on the costs of having to to upgrade them as well. However
given the problems Microsoft has been having with the second
release candidate of SP2 http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/
07/23/2028258 and the fact Apple has admitted its
moving its iMac line to the G5, I think it's more important that
Microsoft releases a version of Virtual PC that runs on the G5 as
soon a possible.
