Micron unveils chipset for DDR

Micron Technology unveiled on Monday a prototype of a chipset that will allow computer makers to insert Double Data Rate (DDR) DRAM memory into Pentium III computers. DDR can churn data at a faster rate than standard memory, thereby improving performance. However, DDR costs roughly twice as much as standard memory. To date, no manufacturer has released a Pentium-DDR chipset. Although Micron did not provide a release date, other Pentium-DDR chipsets are due this quarter.
