Publicity Stunt
This whole thing is a publicity stunt. ET will never receive any information beamed into space by an earth based laser like this. Proof: The earth rotates. Shooting a beam into a fixed direction on the ground will give you the same effect in space as watching the light from a light house. The beam will rotate in a circle once a day through the universe. To receive information from the beam, you will have to stay in contact with it so you can receive the stream of bits. If you are 4 light years away (closest star), then you will have to travel in a circle over 24 light years in a day's time to maintain contact with the beam. It works out roughly 9,000 times the speed of light. This is for ET being only 4 light years away.
