LCD panel
It is true that LCD is used in laptop for years, but never get past 17", 19" and above LCD monitor are from the last 5 years.

One reason people looking for LCD TV instead of plasma TV set is power consumption. Plasma tv use way more power than crt tube.

Common sense?
Based on what? At the time of the decision LCD's were more expensive to make at that size than plasmas. LCD's had vastly inferior performance at the time. LCD's still can't match the performance of plasmas but are really close finally.

LCD's still can not match the color depth of plasma. They can not match the speed of plasma. They definitely can not match the black level of plasma.
