Matsushita names new CEO of U.S. unit

Japanese electronics maker Matsushita Electric, best known by its Panasonic brand, announced Tuesday that it has appointed Yoshihiko Yamada as the chairman and chief executive of Matsushita Electric of America. Yamada will oversee consumer, business to business, industrial component sales operations, research and development and manufacturing in North America. The company employs 26,000 people in North America with sales topping $8.3 billion. Yamada previously was vice president of Panasonic AVC Networks in Osaka, Japan.

The company also appointed Masaru Kono as president and chief operating officer of Panasonic Consumer Electronics, a division of Matsushita Electric of America. Kono will report to Yamada. Kono was executive vice president of Panasonic Automotive Systems of America.
