Marimba upgrades software

Marimba on Monday released upgrades to its products for remotely managing server software and personal computer software. The server software, formerly known as Timbale and now called the Server Management product family, has a new user interface that lets more than one administrator share tasks. The upgrade adds support for the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), which lets disparate computer systems exchange data and commands described by Extensible Markup Language (XML). The upgrade also lets administrators manage applications that run on top of Microsoft's Internet Information Server Web server software.

In addition, Marimba upgraded its remote management software for corporate PCs and mobile computing devices. Formerly known as Castanet, and now called the Desktop/Mobile Management product family, the upgraded software improves support for applications running on the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system. These include the Active Directory service and Windows Management Instrumentation. The changes are meant to help administrators keep track of workers' software configurations, licenses and subscriptions.
