Macromedia offers peek at new Web technologies

  • Post a comment
Demonstrating that a recent acquisition has begun to bear fruit, Macromedia today plans to show off a handful of new technologies that tie together some disparate pieces of its Web authoring, personalization and analysis software.

Macromedia will offer a sneak peak at UltraDev, Web application development software that closely follows the underlying technology and graphical user interface of the company's Dreamweaver Web content authoring application.

UltraDev will let software writers create applications for the Web based on any of three major Web application programming languages: Allaire's Cold Fusion Markup Language (CFML), Microsoft's Active Server Pages (ASP) and Sun's Java Server Pages (JSP).

Macromedia also will show new methods for giving people who use Dreamweaver access to Macromedia's Aria Web site activity analysis software. The Dreamweaver Objects for Aria are drag-and-drop tools that let Dreamweaver developers add measurement and analysis tools to a Web site while they are writing it. The idea is to keep Web site creators from having to backtrack and add those analysis capabilities after sites are already built.

A third Macromedia development is the release of its LikeMinds eMail. The product is based on the personalization software acquired with last year's purchase of Andromedia, which acquired LikeMinds in 1998.

LikeMinds uses "collaborative filtering" technology to analyze the surfing and buying patterns of large groups of Web users to predict future behavior. Macromedia's new email product will help Web sites target email to specific consumer and demographic groups.
