LookSmart names CFO

Search company LookSmart on Monday said it hired William Lonergan, longtime senior partner with consulting firm KPMG, as its chief financial officer. The announcement comes at the end of a three-month transition in which former LookSmart CFO, Dianne Dubois, stayed on while the company found a replacement. Dubois, former E*Trade vice president of finance, resigned after more than two years with the company, citing family issues. Lonergan, 47, joins LookSmart after serving as chief financial officer of tech company Tacit Knowledge Systems and after spending 20 years in KPMG's auditing and consulting practice.

San Francisco-based LookSmart in recent weeks filed a second-quarter financial report that indicated it could face significant revenue losses as its largest customer, Microsoft, continues to test its own search tools. Microsoft began testing its own search technology on several of its U.K. sites in July, eliminating the directory layer of search results in which LookSmart's listings currently appear. Sixty-four percent of LookSmart's overall listings revenue has come from Microsoft-related business over the last six months.
