Three firms to boost traditional Linux version
Debian, the version of the Linux operating system considered to be truest to the open-source effort's roots, will get a boost with backing from VA Linux Systems, O'Reilly and Associates, and computer maker SGI.

Intel, others take stakes in TurboLinux
update TurboLinux got a multimillion-dollar shot in the arm with investments from Intel, Broadview, and August Capital that will help the company take on the Linux top dog, Red Hat.

VA Linux files IPO plans
The maker of Linux-based computers intends to raise $70 million in an IPO, becoming the fifth Linux-related company to go public.
