For the first time, China will this year produce more LCD monitors than conventional CRT monitors, according to research firm iSuppli.
This is notable because China has become one of the largest producers and exporters of monitors. Chinese manufacturers will produce 44.6 million LCD monitors in 2004, up 42 percent from 2003. Only 44.5 million CRTs will be shipped, and the gap between the two will continue to grow.
Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Wal-Mart, among others, all obtain monitors from Chinese manufacturers and designers. They sell them under their own brand names, however.
