Katrina Disaster

I had heard of unconfirmed reports that one of the levees in New Orleans was ruptured due to stray river barges colliding with the levee. Is there any truth to this story and if so no one could have forseen this happening and the strength of the storm would have had no bearing on the strength or weakness of the levee system.
