Michael Marks, a senior adviser with Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, has joined the board of Sun Microsystems as part of a $700 million investment the firm made in the storage and software company earlier this year, Sun said Thursday. Although KKR is known for its buyouts of publicly traded companies, a standstill agreement precludes that option with Sun at present.
Marks was chief executive officer of electronics manufacturer Flextronics before joining KKR in 2006, and still is Flextronics' chairman. He also is on the board of three members of KKR's portfolio, Aricent, Avago Technologies and Accellent, and is on the board of SanDisk and Schlumberger.
