Again CNET as biased as ever against Macs
by spongebob. August 29, 2006 5:47 AM PDT
Again a heavily biased article against Macs.

If ONE Mac burned as opposed to TWO Dells as written in the
Article, and twice as many Dell Batteries are faulty than Mac
Batteries, why on Earth is the headline of this article so nicely
"balanced" against Macs?

Is this what CNET calls Objectivity?

get off the whole biased thing. Its getting old!
by yikes31 August 30, 2006 5:41 AM PDT
Apple courts the media, using it for its advantage far more than many other technology companies, and so there is more of a focus when negative things happen. Its not biased, its sensationalism.
Apple is in the limelight so everything that happens at cupertino is reported.
Dont think that I am some Microsofty zealot saying this, I own and love my mac. In fact I have a powerbook with a battery that needs to be replaced.
I just think that some of the posters need to stop with this 'little brother must be protected from bullies' attitued.
Yet another insecure Mac user..
by viper396 September 3, 2006 9:40 PM PDT
The new article showed no bias. it just reported the cold hard facts. Leave it to a Mac user to try to turn it into another lame excuse to start another PC vs. MAC discussion. Mac users need to lose the attitude and face reality. Your precious Mac's are not so perfect.
Apple already said this.....

HP Rejected These Batteries - Poor Apple Quality Control
by john55440 August 29, 2006 7:36 AM PDT
"But HP is sitting pretty this time around. HP's engineers tested the batteries in question and decided they didn't meet the company's reliability standards, company insiders said. The batteries were disqualified for use in HP products."

Proof positive that Apple has poor quality control.

Apple and Dell need to stop cutting corners

Once again HP does the right thing and goes with a quality component.
No battery problems reported with IBM machines either.

HP: Different design, different batteries
by J.G. August 30, 2006 5:32 PM PDT
HP laptops may be designed differently or configured differently than those compatible with the Sony batteries in question. Or HP could prefer cheaper batteries. Your claim that bad quality control is the issue is obviously not supported.
That's nothing to gloat over.
by viper396 September 3, 2006 9:52 PM PDT
HP has already had it's share of embarrasing battery recalls. Just because they were spared this time is nothing to gloat and brag about. HP sells thousands of laptops; it only takes *one* defective battery to cause a recall.
Pot calling the kettle...
by umbrae August 29, 2006 7:47 AM PDT
The story is around the MAC report. The Dell incident was reported in another article. There is alway bias in the news, but CNET as whole swings on both sides.

c/net bias
by egarc--2008 August 29, 2006 7:52 AM PDT
umbrae, I used to think c/net had a bias against Apple but you're
right, they swing to both sides. They tend to sensationalize which
comes off as bias.
Exactly
by Charleston Charge August 29, 2006 8:58 AM PDT
When Cnet reported the same story about Dell the responses were "Dell Sucks" or "Sony Sucks". When the story is reported about Apple it's "Cnet is Biased." Same goes with reports on Vista. When there is an update on Vista, there are always responses about how "Cnet is obviously being paid off by MS." The truth is Cnet would cover Leopard if Apple actually released details about it. Apple, however, doesn't release details until the product is near release, at which point they will show it off at shows and conferences which Cnet always heavily covers.

Yup, CNET, Associated Press, and Reuters are all part of a vast anti-Apple conspiracy; because they are all reporting this story today. -lol

This was a DISCONTINUED G4!!!
by i,Jimbot August 29, 2006 9:13 AM PDT
The computer in question was a G4 - no longer manufactured and
sold by Apple. The new Intel based laptops use a different kind of
battery. I see that CNET has not mentioned this.

"Bias" is all about sensationalism and page views!

That's all. It's transparent.

Again, this isn't a reputable news source in the traditional sense.
Whiny people
by ajbright August 29, 2006 10:17 AM PDT
All I can say is if you buy an Apple Hindenbook you should expect the odd fire every now and then.

Instead of criticising Apple, why not appreciate the additional features the Hindenbook offers. Just remember that when camping, the Hindenbook should be used responsibly - and all the toasted marshmellows and campfire songs of your youth can be realised, with accompanying music from iTunes.

Not CNET itself hates Macs...
by MidniteRaider August 29, 2006 6:23 PM PDT
It's mostly the members who post things that have nothing to do
with the article. While at the same time Mac heads always need to
have more appreciation to the PC world.

In any case, if you call someone a "zealot", "troll", "zealous
retard".... are no more than a nerd yourself. Go get a clue?... Get a
life and just worry about the article.
OOPS!
by heystoopid August 29, 2006 2:35 PM PDT

They don't hate Mac, Sony just SUCKS
by PCCRomeo August 30, 2006 4:39 AM PDT
Seriously Sony, go away. What are you giving us right now besides the PS3? Which I can live without. We don't want knock off iPods, we don't want $50 Blu-Ray discs, and we definately don't want combustable batteries...

get off the whole biased thing. Its getting old!
by yikes31 August 30, 2006 5:34 AM PDT
This thread is supposed to be about the fact that apple are replacing their batteries in powerbooks and ibooks - not about the biased in news reporting.
Personally I think that Apple is a big boy and can live with a little dig from the people at cnet from time to time. In addition, cnet also provide apple with alot of positive coverage - for example with the sneak peak at leopard.
Im not anti apple, in fact I have a Mac powerbook - with a battery that needs to be replaced. I just think that people need to get off this 'defending their little brother in school' attitude.
The reason why mac products get so much attention is simply because apple courts media attention. sensational product releases that make world news are part of the every day thing at apple. Much moreso than HP or DELL. So there is more negative focus when something bad happens.

Apple are just a crap makers :P
by t3st3r` August 30, 2006 9:34 AM PDT
Apple just makes crap as usually.Usually, when Apple cannot be technically superior, they use marketing instead to lie they are still superior. What a sucking and brainf...ing company. For now, they has failed to create their own computers comparable to usual PCs.So, right now their computers are in fact just an usual x86 PCs, nothing more, nothing less.Everything else is stupid marketing.

Actually, whifting to x86 will eliminate the legend that Macs are secure.No.They always had ****** poor-quality code in their MacOS.However PowerPC processors were not familiar to hackers. So it was somehow secure. Now, you can see how hackers who are familiar with x86 are hacking MacOS X easily.Because Apple is not changes. It makes crap, as usually.

obviously knows nothing
by yikes31 August 30, 2006 5:35 PM PDT
well this bright spark is obviously a computer science graduate
at berkley or something as they are demonstrating a great
amount of knowledge of computers.
First they have nothing smart to say so they fill their comments
with expletives and smileys (the mind boggles at the
intelligence).
Then the knowledge about programming and hacking comes
into play). Let you into a little secret, if you can code on a
powerPC then you can code on an x86 machine. That is
definately not the reason why hackers havent hacked the mac.
By your logic, In the next year, there should be as many bugs
and vulnerablilities identified in os x as there are identified in
XP.
If I were you, I would go back to my PC games as this is
obviously all you know. Enjoy playing quake and stop pretending
you actually know something!
Apple sure has fooled folks, eh?
by J.G. August 30, 2006 5:43 PM PDT
You said:

"Everything else is stupid marketing."

So, an out-of-the-box fully functional OS is just marketing? Plug and play peripherals are just marketing? Innovations such as Dashboard and Spotlight are just marketing? Apple winning all those design awards was just marketing? Etc.

Nor does your other equally strange claim hold up. If hackers are hacking OS X right and left why are there still no viruses for OS X?

I don't think Apple has fooled folks. I do think there are fools like you who just don't grasp what Apple does.
Dont Blame C/net.
by nintendo812 August 30, 2006 11:45 AM PDT
As most of you all can read, it says at the top BY REUTERS. Cnet didn't write this story, Reuters
did, so stop saying C/net is biased.

Remember this when you put a CAMERA or CELLPHONE BATTERY in your pocket.
by disco-legend-zeke August 31, 2006 5:20 AM PDT
Modern Lithium batteries are extremely high energy density devices.

Extreme care should be used in handling ANY battery, shorting the contacts or puncturing the case can result in damage or even serious injury.

A couple years back, there were several incidents involving COUNTERFIT lithium cellphone batteries.

Sony's INFOLITHIUM is one of the most technologically advanced high energy density batteries in the world, the havoc wrought by a tiny materials defect bears proof. Some early INFOLITHIUM models are banned on aircraft.

BE CAREFUL!!!

Don't hate Apple or Dell, hate Sony
by thedreaming August 31, 2006 6:56 AM PDT
Sony's rep right now is pretty bad. First, you have the rootkit, then you have the racists white psp ads, now you have exploding laptop batteries. Don't hate Apple or Dell, they're recalling the batteries and replacing them with safe ones. Hate Sony for endangering people's lifes with dangerous laptop batteries.

Don't hate, just beware Apple and Dell
by Jackson Cracker August 31, 2006 8:20 PM PDT
Apple and Dell had a choice to go with a more reliable battery like HP
and others did, but decided to cut corners with the unreliable Sony
batteries. It's about safety, not hate.
