Intertainer extends reach, cuts staff

Video-on-demand provider Intertainer says it has signed a deal to provide services to Adelphia subscribers. Los Angeles-based Intertainer said the cable company will deliver the services to customers with digital cable TV or a high-speed cable modem. Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Los Angeles will be the first cities to offer services under the deal, Intertainer said.

The agreement comes as Intertainer restructures its business and cuts staff. An Intertainer representative would not comment on the number of layoffs but said recent deals allowed the company to reduce its work force. The company recently struck pacts with movie giant Universal Studios, broadband-network provider WinFirst and Liberate Technologies, which develops interactive TV software.
