Intermec introduces rugged-use handheld

Handheld maker Intermec Technologies introduced Monday the latest device using Microsoft's Pocket PC 2002 operating system. The new 700 Color model is designed for rugged use; it can withstand multiple drops from as high as 5 feet and is rain and dust resistant, according to the company. The device has integrated radio and scanner options, such as Bluetooth and 802.11.

The 700 Color includes a 3.8-inch color display and Intel's XScale PXA250 processor. Intermec sells its products to large businesses, and pricing varies depending on the number of units customers buy and what options they chose for the device. The 700 Color machines start at $1,595 and go as high as $1,995. They'll be available in the third quarter.
