Intel's top lawyer to retire

F. Thomas Dunlap Jr., who has served as Intel's general counsel since 1983, plans to retire Nov. 1. His replacement: D. Bruce Sewell, who is currently deputy general counsel.

Dunlap, 53, has been the company's top lawyer through many notable legal battles, including tumultuous copyright infringement cases with Advanced Micro Devices. His contributions also helped enact the Chip Protection Act of 1984, which gave intellectual-property protection to chip design layouts. Dunlap joined Intel in 1974 as a product engineer. Sewell joined the company in 1995.
