- Intel and their problems
- Intel has more problems than competition from AMD. It has failed to break into mobile phones where TI is the leader. Nokia, Samsung, BenQ and Motorola don't want to use Intel Silicon in preference to Texas Instruments. Intel has messed up and allowed AMD to overtake it. For example they poured billions trying to scale the P4 but scrapped the Netburst Microarchitecture when they realised it would run too hot and use too much power. I also believe Otellini is a text book case of the Peter Principle. Costs have soared under his watch and Intel now employs some 100.000 people. Only their Israeli R&D team seem productive. Also Itanium has been a failure. It was meant to replace all RISC chips in Big Iron servers. X86 was only going be used in the cheapest servers. So Itanium has flopped, AMD is the King of x86 and Intel can't give their cell phone chips away.
