Industrial Linux monitors pipelines

Verano, which sells software for industrial infrastructure such as factories and power plants, has found a customer for its Linux product. Edmonton, Candada-based Enbridge will use Verano's Linux-based Industrial Defender Watch software to monitor the performance and security of its pipeline infrastructure, Verano said this week.

Enbridge runs a crude-oil transportation system in the United States and Canada. It's increasingly working on natural-gas transmission systems as well. Industrial Defender Watch, which is based on a secure version of Linux created by the U.S. National Security Agency, will be used to monitor natural-gas systems in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and New York.
