Indian consultancy wins big IT deal

Tata Consultancy Services has won a two-year, $100 million deal to provide diagnostics company GE Medical Systems with global IT services. Mumbai, India-based TCS will work with the integration, development and management of various supply-chain management and customer-relationship management systems. The project will be launched in the United States and in more than 30 other countries in Europe and Asia, including Singapore. Initially, 200 TCS staff will be involved, and a total of 600 TCS employees are expected to work on the project over its duration. Prior to the announcement, TCS had been providing IT services to GE Medical Systems, which is based in Waukesha, Wis., for the last 18 months. The company underwent a two-month evaluation before winning the contract.
