Free of charge to gamers?

The potential for new advertising inventory may also fund a re-release of back catalog titles--completely free of charge to gamers, in some cases--and longer lives for hit titles.

You're suggesting that older games may be re-released as advertiser-supported, free to the user?

What if the quality of the graphics are poor? Will the ads also be pixelated to match, or will they stick out like a sore thumb? :)

Popcap

Popcap already does that with the pc version of Zuma, you play for an hour, then when that expires they serve you tv ads in a frame every 30 min until you pay for it.. It's actually not intrusive and allows for extended playing beyond the hour and popcap gets money regardless, it's almost a win/win..
