ISP data not compromised

Hackers who attacked Apex Global Information Services' network last week didn?t gain access to private data, executives said.

"No private information was compromised," the company said yesterday in a message posted on its Web site.

Last Thursday, the company posted a message on its Web site saying that it had experienced an equipment failure at its Washington point of presence (POP). Then on Friday, it posted a note saying it had "suffered a concentrated and systematic attack of our network," but that its equipment was up and running.

The FBI is investigating last week's attack by hackers and the Computer Emergency Response Team has been consulted. AGIS will not disclose the details of the investigation, and says that it has increased security measures.

Michigan-based AGIS provides Net access to other ISPs nationwide, including Pacific Bell Internet Services, The WELL, and EarthLink. The company has more than 200 POPs.
