IBM supercomputer pumps oodles of data

Researchers using the IBM-designed ASCI Purple supercomputer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have reached a new data-transfer peak of 102 gigabytes per second.

The work was the result of an effort called Project Fastball, which used 104 servers in the ASCI Purple supercomputer to store data using 416 storage system controllers and the General Parallel File System software.
