IBM ups investment in modular-software push

November 4, 2004
IBM introduced an additional set of services and new software designed to advise corporate customers that are adopting a service-oriented architecture (SOA), a modular software design.

The services and software detailed on Tuesday focus specifically on "governance," the idea of establishing defined practices for IT organizations that are building and deploying applications with a revamped underlying architecture in mind. The SOA governance products, which build on existing SOA-related consulting and software offerings, add a business consulting service to plan SOA projects and "help with the necessary cultural changes," according to the company. IBM will also release later this year a new product called IBM WebSphere Service Registry and Repository, a database for storing and managing services.
