IBM offers mobile database for free

IBM is offering its DB2 Everywhere mobile database as a free download from its Web site. Big Blue also said handheld device makers 3Com and Puma Technology will support the database. Oracle, IBM's competitor, also offers its mobile database--called Oracle 8i Lite--for free and has similar alliances with 3Com and Puma, an Oracle spokeswoman said. The mobile databases allow remote workers to link to corporate networks via laptops and handheld PCs.
