IBM chalks up two health care wins

Big Blue has landed two more health care wins, two weeks after it announced a deal with the Mayo Clinic. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) has a three-year, multimillion-dollar contract with IBM to digitize medical records as part of its Electronic Health Record program. The project, expected to be operational in 2006, will ideally make it easier for doctors and hospitals across Western Pennsylvania to obtain patient information and to process prescriptions faster. UPMC evaluated hardware, software and services from both IBM and Hewlett-Packard, Big Blue said in a statement.

Additionally, California's Memorial Care said it will replace current systems built from technology from Sun Microsystems, HP and EMC with one built on IBM products and services.
