Handspring has released a new version of its browser, designed to enhance security and increase the speed of Web access.

Blazer 2.0 is designed for devices that use the Palm operating system. The new browser will be available on Monday for $19.95 at Handango.com and at PalmGear.com, Handspring announced Monday. Users of version 1.1 will be able to download a free upgrade.

New features include 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption, support for proxy and HTTP authentication, and the ability to view secure Web pages over HTTPS protocols.

The browser will be included in Handspring's new Treo family of communicators, devices that combine phone, messaging and PDA features, the Mountain View, Calif.-based company said.

Sprint recently agreed to license the Blazer browser for its Web-compliant cell phones.
