HP using Hitachi drives in servers, storage

Hewlett-Packard is using 300GB hard drives from Hitachi Global Storage Technologies in server computers and storage devices, the companies said Wednesday. HP said that in early October it will offer the Hitachi Ultrastar 10K300 drive with the Fibre Channel interface in its Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) storage device. Hitachi's Ultrastar 10K300 drives with SCSI (small computer system interface) technology are now available in HP ProLiant servers and the Modular Smart Array (MSA) family of storage arrays, HP said. With the 300 GB Fibre Channel drives, HP said it is doubling the storage capability of the EVA to a raw capacity of 70 terabytes.

Hitachi announced the 10K300 drive in February. Hitachi competes against companies including Seagate and Maxtor when it comes to drives for storage devices that often are used to handle corporate data.
