HP lands Veterans Affairs deal

Hewlett-Packard said on Wednesday that it has won a 10-year, $784 million contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs for the support services and maintenance of its health information systems. Under the deal, HP will support and maintain the agency's "VistA" systems, which provide automation and record keeping at VA medical centers. HP has worked with the agency since 1983 on computer-related contracts.

The new contract is with HP's services division, which saw revenue of $3.2 billion for the quarter ended Jan. 31, up 6 percent year-over-year. The company's overall revenue grew 9 percent year-over-year to $19.5 billion. Other companies competing for information technology services contracts include IBM, Electronic Data Systems and Accenture.
